| St
Monans to Anstruther (Fife Coastal Path) Approximate distance 4.5 miles. Starting at the public car park at the Eastern end of St Monans, this walk follows the coast through the East Neuk of Fife passing through Pittenweem and arriving in the picturesque village of Crail. Leaving the East end of the village, the path follows the shore toward St Monans Windmill. Continue on to the attractive fishing village of Pittenweem. Follow the signs to the East end of Pittenweem and travel along a field edge for a short distance before turning right to descend a flight of stone steps leading to the coastline below. The path enters Anstruther near the Golf Club House. The coastal path sign leads you through the town to complete your walk. |
| Hopetoun
Monument Walk, Cupar. Approximate distance 7 miles. To start the walk turn onto St Mar's Road and walk away from the town for approximately 3 kms. Passing Fernie Schoolhouse on your left, bear left then take the next turn on the right uphill. After 1km you will see a signpost for the path toward Hopetoun Monument. Follow this path up the hill until you near the top where you will reach an unsigned junction. Take the left fork and continue to the summit of Mount Hill. From here you will have stunning views of the Lomond Hills and down to the expanse of the Eden Valley. A short path to the right will then you towards the Hopetoun Monument. Continue clockwise around the hill until you once again reach the unsigned junction from where you can retrace your route back to the Howe of Fife Rugby Car Park and the end of your walk. |
| Historic
Culross. Approximate distance 2 miles. To wander through the narrow cobbled streets of Culross is to experience life from a past time. The walk starts in the car park, which has display boards and toilets. Cut down the lane immediately past the building close to the road, turn right to pass the unusual Bessie Bar's malthouse with the forestairs up its gable and next to this is the Culross Palace. Turn up the next street, The Back Causeway, cobbled and with a clear "croon o" the caussey (crown of the causeway). Before going up the Tanhouse Brae, have a walk down the Mid Causeway to see Bishop Leighton's House. Carry on up the Tanhouse Brae aiming for the castle-like tower of the church. Outside the church turn right to circle the graveyard. At agate Culross Abbey is visible, this dates from 1608. Once out of the churchyard, continue up the road leading inland. Just past some lodge gates, follow the footpath sign for the West Kirk. Cross a minor road, continue on the track and then turn right at a T junction and finally left at a Y fork. Continue along the track until it crosses the tree lined but abandoned driveway of Donimarle Castle. Go through the gate, left and down this grassy avenue then, just before the last two big trees, veer right on a green path to come out on the tarred drive which descends to the coast road. Cross this toward the sea and find a footpath beside the railway which leads back to Culross. |
